Wheel Offset on 62 IH pickup

I have a 1962 100 series ihc pickup. I recently had the drag link, idler arm, and one tie rod replaced. And at the same time a front end alignment.

The passenger side front tire now rubs against the upper rocker arm when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. It almost locks it up, so I refrain from sharp left hand turns. I do not have the same problem when turning to the right.

The mechanic states that I have a wheel with an incorrect offset, which is causing the problem. (I.e. Not ihc, but Ford or dodge wheel)

it was not doing so before he did the alignment. I will grant the post alignment driving experience has improved, aside from the rubbing part.

I have p205 75r/15 tires on the front. I intended to replace them with p235 75r/15, which will match the rear tires. Upon closer inspection, I do not think they would fit because of the lack of clearance between the existing p205 tires and the upper rocker arm. The p235 tires being wider.

The tire shop said they can order wheels that has the hub offset I need to compensate for the wider tire. I don't know offhand the width of the oem tire, but I assume it was a narrower and taller tire than the p235. My Dad liked the look of the lower profile p205, but I want the beefier look of the p235.

Is the alignment tech shooting straight with me? Or has he overcompensated the alignment adjustments to one side? If the top of the tire was canted away from the rocker arm (camber?), I do not believe I would have this problem.

What wheel offset should I have? Should I go with a different tire? Different mechanic?

Thanks

I think the only way to know for sure is to remove the wheels, lay them on a flat concrete surface and see if you can measure a difference. To measure the actual offset you'll need to make a way to measure from the edge of the rim to the mating surface.
