what u run in your 345

Wondering what u guys are running in your 345s I was running 14-50 what os the best for the 345 I might add we tow a boat if tgat makes a diffrence

Swepco 15-40

why? I can't afford a motor meltdown. Most off the shelf at walmat stuff is for newer engines that can handle those oils. But any pre 2001 engine is going to have issues. A 345 will have issues with cam bearings and cam lifters, cam shafts as there is not enough of the right type of oil additives.

If swepco is out of the qustion for you, then run rottela with a bottle of swepco oil additive. That can be shipped anywhere for not much money.

The best way to determine which weight oil to use is yearly ambient temperature and the type of service you have (e.g. Trailer towing)

with that in mind, for rocklin CA, which is really a moderate climate, the swepco engine oil I recommend for you would be either 306 - 15w40, or 20w50. I know that Jeff at IHPA uses a lot of 20w50, primarily because of the hot summers we have.

Hi,
so am I correct to assume that for me in southern calif it would be 20w50 year round? And to change it once a year, or every 5000 miles, or whenever it looks dirty, which ever comes first?

If you are using off the shelf delo or rotella make sure it is not the le version.

If you use the le version you are just asking for trouble due to the lack of zinc and other stuff that is poison to the catylitic convertors in the newer rigs.

The old style non-le version of delo and rotella is available but you won't find it at wal-mart or costco.
