1974 IH pickup 392 with Holley points ignition. I know what the condensor is inside of the distributor but what is the condensor looking item that is bolted on the side of the coil and goes to the + side of the coil? Resistor? ... what does it do ? thanks all

That is a noise suppressor condensor for the radio or any other electrical device that May be sensitive to the electrical noise generated by the coil. It is not necessary like it was in the past. Modern car audio equipment does a good job of regulating that noise out.
