What front axle to use??

I posted earlier about my 72 sii 4x4, with 4" SUA lift.
I have determined from you guys help and some locals here, I need to cut and turn my front axle. Being that it is a Dana 30, and eventually I May want the 44, I thought it May be smart to try and find a complete front, then have it cut down to size and turned. Obviously a Scout II 44 would be optimal, but if I couldnt find one, what are some other good options, models, etc.

I have been told some older model trucks, etc. I do have a buddy with a small salvage around 200 vehicles here, and I was thinking there has got to be something that May work there.. Also, would it be worth my $ to get that Dana 30 turned and just keep it? Or just suck it up and get a 44, and turn it?

Thanks for any input or advice

Don't put money/effort into a d30, go with you instinct, put a d44 together.

If you can't find a Scout d44, then look for a Jeep wagoneer d44. Still SUA, almost the same width, and even have some caster built in, so it might just be right without anymore work (depending on what angles you need).

Stock they are 6 on 5.5 pattern, you can swap complete sii outers on them (if you have discs right now, which means they were swapped on your truck, stock you would have had drums), or you can combine the waggy outers and f150/Bronco hub and rotor to have 5 on 5.5.

Lots of options.

Ditto, sii is best, then waggy.

Waggy would be better, but more work.
Don't Scout d44s have d30 outers?

Also, research "5 lug conversion".
There are big bearing & little bearing spindles on Chevy & Jeep d44s. Only 1 type works on the conversion (pretty sure waggy ones are not the right ones).
