UPgrade options?

For my Scout 80, the motor needs to be rebuilt and I want to go to a 4speed trans.

Since I have to pull the motor I am interested in upgrading to something a little bigger like an i6 or v6 or v8. What are my options for engine and trans combos that will mate up with my current twin stick tranfer case?

Suggestions or info on what you have done?

Any engine that had a Dana 18 or Dana 20 in it.

There isn't a direct "bolt in" option....

Pre 1980 Jeep, or any IH Scout combo (along with various other IH vehicles).

You will most likely have to fab up all new engine & tranny mounts, along with other things... New radiator, brackets, etc. Etc.
 
Ok thanks for the start. I know there won't a direct bolt in outside of the four banger, but want to keep the twin stick with an IH 4 speed manual trans. I was thinking another IH v8 or v6 would mate with those but I need confirmation and what motors to look for. Even if I have to use some adapters. As for the motor and trans mounts etc, thats not an issue I can take care of all that.
