U-bolt kit.safe to do?--see pic

I have your stock upgrade u-bolt kit for my 1977 stock s2...I ordered the kit with the 9/16 heavy duty u-bolt on the passenger side and well we all know it will not fit through the plate..so my idea is enlarge the hole and forget..is this what you guys do and is it safe..personally looks like common sense is put the plate on the mill and open the hole..but I dont know what you guys do and I want to have the rig safe as my daughter does want to drive it..

Enlarging the holes is no big deal and will not affect safety unless you hog them out too far. When we enlarge the holes here in the shop we mount them in a vise on the drill press and drill away. If drilling by hand be careful as the drill bit will want to stick and thus twirl the drill around. A die grinder will also do the trick.
