Well I've finally got the motivation and funds to finish my 392 turbo project I've been working towards since like 2008. After driving the truck with the 392 I've found some major issues id like to address before putting on my gt45r single turbo. The first major problem I'm going to address is my oiling system. The second is a combination of a lot of small things I didn't know about, things relating to IH 392 specific and boost specific problems. Here's a slight background of what is currently done to my 392:
-392 ic block
-ported+polished heads(pretty much just air humps removed and polished exhaust ports)
-cheap .030 over aluminum pistons
-.010 under main and rod bearings
-heads milled .020
-ls6 valve springs
-custom grind erson cam
-block decked .014
-balanced and blueprinted bottom end
motor also has lots of chrome haha.
Well now that I understand the IH engine and know a lot more about turbo setups
I'm going for my final "build" before I put on my gt45r turbo.
This is where I plan to go from here(just a rough draft pretty much)
-disassemble check main, rod, cam bearings and piston wrist pins
-open up oil return passages
-install new custom grind turbo cam from comp
-make deep sump/pick up combo-maybe just 74/75 pickup pan/oil pickup combo?
-zero deck block(try to bump comp ratio to 8.5:1 to spool turbo faster)
-have stronger pushrods made(hopefully cure any chance of bending these long sticks lol)
-windage tray for oil pan
-I want to get a set of arp headstuds and main cap studs(already have arp rod bolts)
-lighten and polish connecting rods. They're around 930g ill try to achieve 835g a rod
-have new lightened rotating assembly rebalanced
-I'm going to paint my lifter valley area with glyptal red valley paint from eastwood
-I plan on porting the exhaust ports larger as well.
-8 point roll cage from jegs for c10 pickup
-box frame
I'm sure I'm missing a few things but that's the general idea of where I'm going from here. Just letting you guys know I'm still going turbo but have to fix a couple things before hand.
Im going to try to keep the build from this point on very picture Rich for you guys as well
