Hello everyone,
My apology if I post this in the wrong area, but I'm looking for a little help.
I'm trying to track down my father's first International Scout 800 Comanche. I have the original VIN and ID card, but I haven't found a site that can provide info on a 13 digit VIN. Everyone seems to require the 17 digit VIN in order to track vehicles.
A brief story behind my search for this car:
My father grew up in the Rockland County area, and worked as a child for a local mechanic from the age of 12, until he enlisted in the Navy for the Vietnam war. He worked for free for the shop for many years, learning the ins and outs of how to fix vehicles. When he eventually returned from his time served during the war, he took on the family business of masonry work, and became a master mason throughout the Northeast of the states, working on some of the largest hospital builds in the area, among other types of masonry projects. He owned 3 scout vehicles from the early 70's into the mid 80's, but his most prized vehicle was his 1971 International Harvester Scout 800 Comanche (White body, Gold top with gold hood stripes). He drove this truck all over the east coast for work at the time. He went on to own some hard to find vehicles through my childhood, such as the Subaru Brat (i fondly remember riding in the back seats, facing backward in the bed of the vehicle), but he never stopped talking about his 71 Comanche.
He's getting older now, and I really would love to track down his original Scout 800, and see if I can negotiate the purchase of it to surprise him for his upcoming birthday in 2021. It'd mean the world to him to even just see this car again, and I'd love to have the moment with him.
Some information about the car:
Year: 1971
Make: International Harvester
Model: Scout 800 Comanche
VIN: 883887G438583
Color: White body, Gold roof, Gold stripes on hood
Production Plant: Fort Wayne, Indiana
The Registration card notes that the type of reg is: Passenger 6002NW, 1971 Inter Subn GL/WH 3280 Gas
It was sold in the upstate NY region (Catskills), sometime in the 70's.
Any help in tracking this down would be greatly appreciated, or even any pointers on how I should go about trying to find it.
Thanks in advance!
-Adam
