Trying to answer some questions about components working together.

So I am trying to build out my scout for driveability and do all the things at once instead of peicing it together over time. this has been a start and stop project for a while but i am buckling down to get it done and on the road. I had previously had 4" RC lift springs but took them off and sold them to go SOA, now I am thinking the SOA will have too much llift for what I want and that this rig is going to be mostly road with some light wheeling/camping duty, and I like the 33s not sure I would ever want anything bigger.

New plan is to keep it SUA with the SJ 4" softride and the questions I have are as follows:
1) How do the extended shackles and castor shims playing into the final pinion/castor angles? Does this just get me back to stock?
2) Would a cut and turn still be reccomended?
3) Should a hysteer set up still be considered to improve steering angles?
4) With the SJ lift, should i consider anything with shock mounting locations?
5) When i had the 4" lift on previously, the rear tires were really close to whats left of the quarter panel. Should i look at moving the rear axle back a bit? I have some IHPA perches so I could change which hole I am using for the center pin.

I will mention that I am in the middle of an LS swap, so there are a lot of changes in play at the same time and since i don't have the new motor installed, I am sort of looking at order of operations so I can make sure what parts I can go ahead and get on order, and what I need to wait on. example, i can get the lift ordered and ready, but wait on shims until i get motor installed and everything sitting on the axles and see where the pinion lines up to the new output yokes on the TC.... do i go ahead and get the hysteer on order or is that a waste of money and not really needed. Scout has 3.07 gears in it, I am going to have it regeared, so i am just going to rebuild the axles, if they are blown apart, the opportunity is there to go ahead and do the C&T.

Sort of a brain dump of questions, but trying to plan everything out and do it right the first time. Anything from this that i'm not missing that I should be thinking through?

To answer your questions in the order they were asked -
1. The caster shims will offset the shackle height, maybe gain 2-3 degrees if you go with 6 degree shims. Otherwise the 4 degree shim with 5" shackles (which we recommend with the SJ lift) will net maybe one degree of positive caster.
2. Yes I would do the cut and turn while you have everything apart.
3. Hysteer is for SOA. Will not work on a SUA Scout with the IH engine, but would probably clear the oilpan of a LS engine. Again not really needed for the amount of lift you are looking to add to the Scout.
4. Shock mounting locations are fine. Recommend Bilstein shocks with any lift.
5. We helped redesign the Skyjacker Scout springs last year and this problem was resolved. They are still a bit forward of center of the wheel well but need to in order to have tire clearance when the suspension is compressed.

One thing you didn't mention was installing a reverse shackle kit up front. I would highly recommend the addition of one as it helps greatly in ride quality.

Don't be in a rush to get the cut & turn done until you have the LS engine installed and if you decide on the reverse shackle kit that too. Once those items are installed, including the lift kit, then do your cut and turn. You'll still probably need caster shims, but they will be thick side to the back (instead of front) to rotate the pumpkin up.

Hope that all makes sense.

@ihpartsjeff - Regarding your statement above about the SJ scout springs. It looks like one side of the spring is about 1" longer from eye to center pin. Am I correct and assuming that side goes towards the front of the scout to push the axle back? I really didnt consider your previous statement when i installed the springs and looks like I hae the long side to the rear. Trying to get everything locked down so i can order some driveshafts.

Thanks,
Matt

For anyone interested, I flipped the springs I had previsouly installed to get the longer section forward of the axle and gained about 7/8" clearance between the tire and the front of the quarter running 33x10 tires. Looks perfect!

Sorry I didn't get back with you as I must have missed your question. But thanks for the follow-up.
