So Saturday im headed to pick up a 69' Travelall 4spd 4x4, that appears to have stuck brakes. Vehicle has not moved in 3 years. Need some ideas on how to to get it rolling.

My thinking is:

first determine if it is one wheel or more.

Remove the wheel off the stuck drum. Then use penatrating oil, possibly heat, or hammer to knock rust or rusted shoes off drum. Not sure what axles I am dealing with yet, so dont know if they are like my 63 that uses a drum puller on tapered axles.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful, and things to make sure I have in my tool bag.

I'd be inclined to pull it backwards and see if the break loose. If it won't come loose, at least you'll be able to see which wheel is locked. If at first you don't succeed try forward.

I got a 70 2010 pickup with a locked rear brake and by the time it had been towed to it's final resting place the drum had come free. In this case it was being pulled forward on dirt.

Depending on whether it's an 1110 or 1210, you'll have flanged axles or full floaters on the back. On the front just pull the wheel bearing. If you use any type of oil the shoes will be ruined. Some heat might do it if the pulling won't work.

Spray the adjuster real good, after you find out which 1 it is that's locked up, then back off the brakes, then pull it, it'll come loose. Jeff
