I purchased my 1968 800 in 1999.
7 years ago, 2015, I purchased the 80/800 Travel Top side and lift gate window seals. The window/rubber channels in the top were in mint condition with original paint and absolutely no rust or pitting. The other day while giving the rig a good washing, I noticed some pitting close to the rubber and rusty water coming out from under the rubber when the edge was lifted. On further inspection I discovered the rear window channel had severe rusting, cancer with holes and so on. What the heck??
Over 40 years the top survived with factory rubber, though the rubber was deteriorating and pulling away when it was replaced. Now the top's window channels are rotting with the replacement rubber. The original glass with the new rubber was installed easily with a pull string to seat over the channel and edge and "sucked" in nicely with no gaps or bulging.
Does this rubber not seal or drain as the OEM did?
