Hello, I've done some searching and am trying to find out how hard it is to convert a 77 Scout II pickup to a full top. I'm sure it's easy and I'll get flamed, but just wanted to ask.

I'm looking to buy the 77, but need to be able to fit 5 people legally in it. The front seat has 3 spots and is great, but I'd need to find a rear seat and top for it. I'd consider a soft top, but I am hoping to move back to alaska this fall and a soft top won't cut it at -50.

No flame in this forum. It is a fairly easy conversion. Your post said that it is a Scout II, however just to be clear most of the "pickup" versions of the Scout in 77 were actually the terra model which is 18 inches longer than a standard Scout II. The only reason I bring this up is that there are some slight differences. Foremost being the top you will need to find. The 118 inch wheel base version of the full travel top Scout is a traveler. They all had fiberglass tops with a liftgate style rear hatch. The side windows are also rounded at the corners. The main things required to put a travel top on either version you have are obviously the correct top, a rear seat, and to remove the bulkhead that separates the cargo area from the passenger compartment. You will also need gaskets for the side rails, and unless yours is in great shape would get a new gasket for the windshield as well. If you are serious about wanting to get set up, Jeff has all the pieces to get you going either Scout II or traveler. I am pretty sure he even has some decent rear seats. You should give him a call when you're ready.

Seeing that you are close by if you do indeed have a terra and want a traveler top I can probably trade you tops.

I'll let you know, it May be another week or two. Going to look at it in person tomorrow.
