Thermoquad Questions (Big Surprise, I know)

Hey all.

Very much a carb "babe in the woods" and I did a rather silly thing. I have changed out my old Holley 2300 with thermoquad. (yes smart enough to change out manifold as well)

Anyways, while looking at vacuum line diagrams, I have noticed I don't have many of the attachments that the lines go to.

I have a non-California 77 traveler with a 345, T19, and AC.

I don't have an "air injection pump" nor do I have a carburetor bull and full tank canister."

What do I do with these lines? Just block 'em off?

I run a TQ p/n 9027S on my truck. Which p/n is yours?

I would be happy to assist you.

Please post up some well focused pics of the carb, from all four sides, a top view and a few of the overall engine bay from each side so I can see what you are working with.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I have a 6545S Model. I believe it is off of a Chrysler 440S engine.

I will get picks tonight or tomorrow.

Here are the pics of the TQ. Let me know if you need any more.

I see the hoses and ports are mostly hooked up.

Front of the carb: The large hose should be the PCV hose.
The small hose on the left should go directly to the distributor Vacuum advance.
Brass tube from airhorn you can cap off.
Small brass tube coming from fwd-rh venturi - this the source for the EGR valve.
Large tube from top of RH bowl, with the bend goes to the charcoal canister or capped of like your is if there is not a charcoal canister.

Rear of the carb: choke pull-off goes to right rear port as your is.
and left rear port goes to the firewall mounted DTM device.

Here is a drawing of how I have the vacuum lines set up after your last post. Was actually able to run it down the road like this.:icon_rotate:

Looks good to me. Good drawing.

Do you have the stock IH air cleaner housing?

I'll look at my truck/carb tomorrow in the light and see if I can add any more info for you.

EDIT: Nothing new for hose connections as all seem to be correct as is, although I see no feedback from you since the 9th.

Also, you took down your drawing, so this info is somewhat meaningless for anyone else that comes along and reads it.

Here is a Vacuum Diagram for the Therm0-Quad installation.
This may be useful.

Sorry about the long lapse. I will put my diagram back up. Trying to remember why i took it down. Reason seemed good at time though, whatever it was.

I have had quite the carburetor odessey since I last posted. After the Scout continued to idle poorly, I took the carb off and re-cleaned it and found more plugged passages especially with my idle system.

During reinstallation, I heard a loud crack and I hoped for the best, but knew it was a fools hope. I was right. I drove the truck with the carb that night and boy it ran awesome for about 30 miles. Then....it ran rough and started surging.

The next morning, in the light, I saw what the loud crack was... I had broke the throttle body while bolting the carb back to the manifold.

Not an easy story to relate, but maybe it will help another noob to NOT tighten the carb too tight!

I was able to procure another TQ off og a 79 Scout quickly and after a quick inspection and a lot of carb cleaner it is on and running ok. Still needs some tuning.

Also, another lesson learned: soak your gaskets with wd40 for easy disassembly. The carb will likely make multiple trips on and off the manifold and ruined gaskets can eat into the budget.

Sorry for your T-Q troubles.

I find with any carb, a full teardown, cleaning and rebuild with a full rebuild kit and new float(s) always gives the best results.

With the Thermo-Quad especially, there are many adjustments and settings that are made as the carb & linkages are assembled.

They must be done correctly and in a specific order. Otherwise, your results will not be satisfactory.
