Tailgate

So I am new here. Please excuse me if I ask stupid questions. I just got my first Scout. I am very excited to get up going. It needs a little help and lots of parts. One of the parts that is driving me crazy has to do with the tailgate. Right now I just have a strap going from the tailgate to the back seat holding the tailgate closed. I have the rods going to the sides of the tailgate but there is nothing for them to connect to on the truck. The sides of the truck where the tailgate closes in has nothing there. Its just flat steel. I have no clue what these two parts are called. So I cannot figure out how to buy them. Could I get some help.

I'm guessing you have a traveller (118 in. Wheelbase) where someone added a standard tailgate. The traveller's came from the factory with a bed to top lift gate. If you add a standard tailgate you would need to attach latches to each side of the bed opening.

If you have a Scout as you say there are latches on each end of the rod going across the tailgate that engage into a catch bolted onto the bed. There are also some rubber bumpers that keep the tailgate from banging around. Some photos of what you have would be helpful.
