Tailgate cables

My truck came from the po with mismatched tailgate cables, one cable I could tell was the IH original but the other was obviously not correct. The IH cable was the correct length to allow the tailgate to set down, and the other was the same kind/length as a Chevy tailgate chain, too short. So after work yesterday I fabbed up these replacements.

I started by making the stock for the hooks, I chucked some 3/8 round stock in the lathe and drilled a hole in the end for the cable to go into

Then I made a quick form for bending the rod on the table,using the old cable as a guide

Here's a pic of the round stock getting bent.I didn't get any pics,but the remaining steps involved silver soldering the cables into the end of the hooks, drilling out 3/8 ball bearings for the other end of the cable and welding those on.and as a finishing touch, a little bit of heat shrink tubing

Sweet!! Aint it nice to be able to fab up something like that to resolve a p.o. Virus
