T19 questions?

I've got a 1968 1200c 4x4. I think it has a t19 trans. Its a four speed with the shift pattern with reverse at top right. Here's my questions. Is it a t19? What are signs for a rebuild? I've got a little noise and a little vibration. Noise stops when the clutch is depressed. Rattles a little in nutural with clutch out. Is it the throw out? How difficult is it to rebuild these things?
Thanks for the great forum.

You can look on the side of the trans for an id code. My t18a says t18a on the rightor left side close to the top,[cant remember] Another route is to pull the cover inside and look for the IH id tag attached to 1 of the shifter tower bolts. Post up the number and someone will know the answer.you might be able to get the bolt holding it out from the bottom to keep from pulling the cover.
As far as your noise, sounds like the throw out bearing is headed south. Check to see if it is greasable if so juice it up to see if that helps, if not yank her out and replace. Rebuild kits are available for the t18 and 19 trans, also the right kind of lube will make a big difference. Vibration could be from a multitude of sources drivelines,u=joints , bad mainshaft bearings,[ you will also hear noise too]. Imho ,without hearing the noise or feeling the vibes sounds like a classic case of bad throw out.

If you do need a t-19, I have one. Got it thinking it would fit my Scout II, but it won't! $100.00 and it's yours. Came out of a 74 p/u.

With reverse at top right, that will be the t-98 4 speed with the 'granny' first gear. If the 'noise stops' when the clutch is depressed, the transmission is disconnected from the engine so the transmission gears and bearings stop turning. The 'rattle' in neutral could be just the pin that holds the shifter in place. Is there much 'slop' in the trans shift lever? If the throwout bearing is adjusted so it isn't rotating when the clutch is 'out', there would be no noise to hear except for the bearing at the front of the trans. If you hear a rumbling sound or feel roughness in the clutch pedal when the clutch is pushed down, that could be a bad throwout bearing or maybe the pilot bearing in the center of the flywheel. The t/o bearing can be greased at the same time you grease the cross shaft. Depending on how the truck has been driven, consider rebuilding the trans with new synchros and maybe a couple bearings about every 140,000 miles (+-)! If the 1st/rev gear is getting worn and you get a replacement to run against the old mainshaft gears, you will hear more noise in 1st till the new gear seats with the old gear. Stay away from the trans gear lube rated with the 'gl-5' rating. The gl- 2,3,4 and 5 rated gear oils tend to damage the 'yellow metals' in the gear boxes. Some owners use 50 wt motor oil. The valvoline gear oil, while being rated as gl-5, 'claims' their gl additive package does not damage the yellow metals in gear boxes.
