Swing Shackle

Im sorry this is kind of a noob question. Do swing shackles give you more articulation? Im looking to get more travel out of my suspension and I heard you could only get the amount of travel depending how long your swing shackle is. Im so confused.

Although it's been ages (literally!) since I wheeled in a 1958 f-250, I would hazard a guess that revolving shackles will add travel but there's no weight on the associated tire if the shackle is open. Same as the tire being off the ground.

No weight = no traction. No traction = no go.

I think I would want to see these critters in action before I went to that much trouble and $$$ to do the deed.

Your mileage May vary.

then how do I get more travel?

I have to answer that question with a question. How much travel do you want/need?

Imho, the answer to this question will point you in the right direction as far as which suspension system you'll need. Suspension systems need to be engineered, so I don't think looking for a single component (shackles) is going to get you where you want to go. Shackles alone May add more travel, but you'd still be limited by spring, shock and driveline travel. Plus, adding one single component might cause more problems than it solves, like loss of traction (mentioned above), body roll, nose dive, bump steer, death wobble, etc, etc.

Well when I jack up the car the wheels only drop down a few inches before they bottom out. I guess I would like to see more total drop out of my suspension.
