Ok got the t/c pulled from the donor Scout 79 727 d20 unit.
Do I need to remove the drive gears from the tail shaft housing and move them with it or will I be ok just swappin the case to my other 727 , got the reseal kit ordered today from the dacco dealer here in town. 34 bucks all seals and gaskets included.
Was also wonderin bout the two seals in the tail housing. Should I go ahead and replace em now I havent found any evidence of gear lube in the tranny or am I havin any slip issues.

For a 727 in front of a d20 in a Scout II, there is only one bull gear with the correct spline count (23) and it was made with only the 17.5* pitch angle. So no need to change the bull gear, just do not let it get away, those are very difficult to obtain!

As for changing the double seal set in the transfer case adapter/tailhousing, that is your call. But you are already in there, why not pull some pm?

Since yawl play in them special s. Georgia red clay pits, this is an excellent time to provide a vent system with tubing led up into a clean portion of the body for the transfer case. Simply remove the oem toggle vent from the d20 and replace with a brass pipe nipple and some clear vinyl tubing.

Well, im on the reassembly stage of the reseal. I can picture losin my mind while tryin to put all those damn needle bearings back in the idler gear. Thats gonna be fun as hell.
Anyway things seem to be goin ok, its my first t/c tear down. I've only managed to trash one seal and that was due to havin a mental lapse. Lol.
I did notice that there is an orange and what appears to be green or maybe gray springs. Which one is the heavy one. They have to go back in the right shift bar.
I woulda took pics but im to embarrassed by the look of my shop right now .lol its kinda trashed.

The "light" spring goes into the front drive shift rail (passenger side). The heavier spring goes in the under-drive shift rail (driver side).

Are those springs from the overhaul kit?

The oem springs are I.d. By the light spring (12lbs.) being yellow in color, and the heavier spring (26lbs.)being red.

For assembling loose needle or roller bearings I use a product made for that called "transemble", it's formulated to be soluble in atf and is an industry standard. The next best thing is to use vaseline as it is soluble (once it gets warm) in the transmission lube. I don't use wheel bearing grease as it May allow the rollers to "skate" at initial start up which will flat spot 'em immediately. It is not difficult to do with patience, but you will need to rig a guide dowel of some sort so you can keep the thrust washers aligned as well.

My springs came outta the case im resealing. No springs were included, im sure I can get it by feel I didnt pay that much attn. To em but im sure there are slight diff. In the two.
I had thought of the guide dowel for the idler , thanks for the help m/m.
