So I jumped the gun without thinking things through completly. I began trying to remove my diff. Bearings to replace them and adjust backlash. But I forgot to measure the back lash. I already destroyed one of the bearings, should I just estimate how many shims to move based off of the backlash I noticed befor I took it apart? Also im having trouble removing the bearing do I need to split it off? Its a Dana 44 tapered shafts with a Powr-Lok on a 65 Scout 80.

What amount of backlash are you shooting for? It's best to leave as is as there is a wear pattern that you do not want to deviate too much from. There is a new spec and a "used" spec. If the shims are still in one piece, mic them and see what is what on each side.
