stretching an 80 frame

Plug Ugly

Im stretching an 80 in the back 8 inches. Does anyone know off the top of their head what either the internal or external od/id's are for proper sleeve size? Yeah, I konw I can measure it, but im away from the Scout, and was hoping to pick the steel up on the way home.

Plug...

The s80 frame was not fabbed from rectangular tubing. But rather it's two "c" sections, one inside the other, and then welded to form a "box" section.

I just measured an s80 frame at several points on the rails, the largest width of a rail is 3-1/8" nominal, the largest "depth" is 4" nominal.

I don't have a frame cut apart so I can't get an accurate measurement of the "inside" of the box section.

Thanks michael. Was hoping to find a piece that I could pound into the rear horns like 12", and have 4 to 6" stick out, then would pound another stock rear horn on for the last 8" . Several rosette welds, a nice long butt weld, and a few fish plates later, I figured it would be over kill in strength, stock "thickness" and proper height for body mounts, etc. I just need something close on the rear id, but will take whatever ic an get.

Plug,

to be honest most of the time when a frame needs to be extended, you would cut up another frame and scab in the piece. Idk but that seams like the easy way.:icon_eek:

take the dimensions to a metal shop and pay $100.00 for the guy to bend up a patch piece for your frame.

Sorry for sounding blunt but the stuff you want to do is not off the shelf knowledge and there is no easy way around get'in dirty.

Yeah, thanks for your input.

I edited my original message as I was in a bad mood, and its not worth it. I thought this was a tech forum for questions and answers, maybe I am wrong.

The bluntness was half in jest and half me being an a-hole.

I mean you admited you could do it.

measured the rear horns. While looking it over.

Over all frame rail height= 3.940"
over all frame rail width = 3.025"
rail bottom sleave width= 2.735"
