Spools

Have a 1977 SSII with 345 / 2bbl / 727tf / Dana 44's front and back with trac locs.
Would like some opinions on switching to a "spool" in front axle. Would like both pros and cons. 90% of driving is on pavement, so this would be primarily for offroad.

Steering (off road) will be tough, and trying to turn in the mud will tend to make you want to continue strait. And your steering box will get quite a work out.

Snowy road contitions will be darn neer impossible in 4wd. Be hard on shaft too, but not a ton harder than a full locker.

I had a spool in the front of the buggy, with full hydrolic steering it was not a problem. But when I put the axle in the 800 and just power steering it was damn near impossable to turn it on the rocks. It would yank over to full lock and could barely get it straight. So, long story short, I would not use a spool in the front unless you have full hydro steering.
