International Harvester m-2-4, ihc military, 2 trucks, lots of extra parts, has kcab, 2 sets sand blasted combat rims, new tires sta superlug x7, used ndt tires x6, 4 trannies, 3 engines 2 good ones, all sorts of parts, email only no spammers, thanks jj

As if I needed another project. Plus, I'm about out of room for any more. But would be fun to build up

Dt360 has and always will walk circles around the 5.9/6bt cummins setup. I can actually rebuild a dt platform in chasis.

That m24 would benefeit best from being dropped on the similar k/kb series chasis of the exact same platform just with the luxury of the red diamond/trans/axle upgrades as well as the option of sliding in a dt platform.

Youre right. Someone buy that thing. Id do horrible things to it and the triple diamond guys from the other sites ober der would hunt me down and kill me

Is the dt360 a direct replacement for an sv v8? Could I still use the same t34 trans, bell housing, etc or would I have to scrap everything, including the rear engine/bell housing motor mount cross member, etc? Or is it too big or long to fit in an unmodified engine compartment? Just wondering how much fab work is needed in such a conversion for a 62 pickup, or is it just too heavy?
Thanks.

Hey steeve. The dt301/360/414/466 all the way up to the 817 started their lives out as IH industrial/ag engines. The dt301/360/466 were also adapted for medium duty trucks. Obviously the dt466 still lives today with a few other maxxforce variants.

A dt360 could probably be made to fit. I havent personally tried. But I doubt its a "direct bolt in" the dt's also outweigh the cummers by a few lbs.

I would think a 6.9/7.3 idi would fit better and be a whole lot easier to get parts for.

As you can see the m-2-4 has an extremely long nose. The k8's and up also had an extremely long nose to house cummers red diamonds. Ect. Your t'ette May suffer a dog house lol

I believe your truck could be special ordered with a d301 na

alot of this stuff im unsure on o/d. And I apologize.

Ive rebuilt a bunch of IH diesels and quite a few lately. Alot of companies here no longer service IH/navi diesels. The 6.0/vt365 would probably be an acceptable swap too. Just with alot more work lol.

Hi,
and thanks for the reply. Actually I've been doing a lot of research based on your info above. Interestingly I came across someone who installed a dt466 in a 71 travelette:

Without a shop, such fab work would be far beyond my means to pay someone to do. And, according to my limited research, engines such as the d301, although I'm not clear if they are a direct bolt up to a t34 5 speed bellhousing and trans, seemed to be a great engine for agricultural use, but lacked the performance needed for street use.
Here is where a d301 was put in a 70 f100:

It looks like a nice, simple therefore dependable engine, which I am after - something that can go several hundred thousand miles between break-downs or rebuilds. But does it have the pulling power and dependability of a 304 after power steering and a/c is hung on the engine? I just don't know. And being an old ag design, does it constantly belch black smoke, therefore possibly getting me in trouble with the calif smog bureaucracy? To me, another big positive of an old mechanically fuel-injected diesel is its ability to run on wvo.

But for now I'll keep my 304 v8. But I do appreciate your info above, as it gave me a good overall direction for doing more research.
Thanks.
Steve
