I am upgrading the front axle on my '67 Scout. The Dana 44 from a Scout II has disc brakes, so that is a bonus. The several threads I have read say to use a master cylinder from a Ford for best results. So my question: the push rod on the new master cylinder has a small spring/clip thing that fits in a machined groove just behind the rounded head of the rod. What is this, what function does it fill, etc? If I compress it, it goes into the bore, but it seems odd to me that the engineers want this sliding back and forth as the brakes are worked, which will score the inside of the bore. Call me puzzled pineneedle.
