SII Heater Cores

Jeff, curved And straight heater cores are on sale, and you have both varieties, but I want to know if the curved units are the narrow or wide core?

Iirc there's a 2" and a 2.5" (or 2 vs 2.25) core available for the early Scout II units (71-74 or 5 comes to mind) while by 77, they only had the thin core available.

I just put my upgraded-squirrel-cage/wide core heater box into my street Scout and need to build up another for the new wheeler..

If I recall correctly the curved ones have the thicker core and the straight ones are thinner. I would have to measure them to be sure, but if you give us a call on Monday I'm sure we can get them measured for you. 530 268-0864. Thanks.

While photographing more new parts for the online store I decided to take pictures of the three heater cores we currently stock and offer.

The Scout 800 core is on the left while the Scout II cores are in the middle and far right.

Measurements of the cores are as follow:
Scout 800 - 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 2 1/2" thick
Scout II w/ straight fitting - 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 2" thick
Scout II w/ curved fitting - 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 2 1/2" thick

hope that clears things up.

Thanks, Jeff!

So anyone looking to upgrade their Scout II heater output should look to acquire the curved-fitting heater core from IH only and either install it in the early heater box, or replace the stamped sheetmetal "u" cover that's against the firewall with one slightly wider to accommodate the thicker heater core.

The thick core won't fix in the thin-box otherwise.

I'm about to upgrade my fan again as well. Larger fan, 2.5" thick core, and an IH only sourced 195 rs t'stat makes for a lot more hot air in a Scout II.

..a concern up here in montana..
