Should I use a Carb Spacer

Greets gents,

looking for some advice on a carb spacer. I'm setting up freshly rebuilt 345 that has been ported, polished, and balanced from s&j engines. I'm using dui distributor, rpt aluminum square bore manifold, and a set of stan's headers. The carb I'm using is a Holley 470 truck avenger.

My question is if I should use a carb spacer on this setup. If so what size and type.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You shouldnt need one imho. Unless this thing is gonna be a 5000 rpm monster or you have really bad heat soak issues. Which then a phenolic spacer would be in order. Most spacers are designed with upper rpms in mind and since most IH motors never see these kinda rpms there's really no need for it. Thats my opinion on it and im sure there are tons more also I didnt see the vehicle type you were installing this engine in, if its a Scout 2 with no body lift, then hood clearance can become a relavant issue with spacers and air cleaner choices.

I do have a 1" body lift. The previous carb had a spacer. This lead me to read up on this issue and ultimately reach out and see what this groups thoughts on the subject where.

It is a total waste of money from a performance standpoint on your IH. Now if you buy a nice all phenolic with matching bore diameters it should help with heat soak and possible fuel percolation, but that's it folks.

I love being right lmao. Being that I'm married it only happens about once every year or so! So I'm gonna eat this one up lmao
