Seat Swap

So, I have been pondering in my dome about getting rid of the original bench seats in my 73 Scout II and swapping them with something newer.

I was thinking front leather buckets out of a mid-late 90s tahoe and maybe going with a back seat out of a tahoe or suburban. My only concern would be getting the seats adjusted to how I want them other than that the power seats would not have power going to them (unless it is pretty easy to get juice hooked up to them)

what have you guys seen or done as far as swapping seats in and out that have worked well and are comfortable? I am looking to do a fairly easy swap, but building custom seat bases is not an issue. My step Dad runs a hvac shop and can help me fab up bases pretty easily.

I am 6'2" 285 and would set the seats up to be as far away from the pedals as possible.

Thanks in advance, there are always great ideas here!

I'm 6'2" and 250 so I feel your pain broseph. I'd say your on the right path. I would also consider a 60/40 spli bench of the same age. It has the comfort, will probably fit width wise, gives room for a third rider up front if needed and has a center consoel that folds down.

Something like this:

That looks like the bench out of a early 2000's sliverado! =p that is what I drive for my dd and I do like the seat. The thought certainly has crossed my mind on going that route.

I am in the very long process of swapping some bucket seats into my '76 terra, the bench is very tired. Wiring up for power is not difficult at all, power/ground/10 amp fuse, especially because I will need to change 'most all the other wiring on the Scout. I am going with buckets out of a mid 90's explorer, because they were plentiful and in good condition at pick n pull.

It seems that the only issue involves brackets, the explorer seats are designed to be placed halfway up the trans tunnel on one side and flat on the other, the Scout bench sits flat (fairly) on the floor on both sides. Making seat mounts shouldn't be too hard , just require a bit of measureing as all 4 corners on each seat will need to be different heights so that I can use the stock explorer seat track. At a minimun I will need to bring seat up 2" from stock height because the Scout trans tunnel causes some interference issues. One of the ihon build threads shows some nice looking tube that was custom bent to provide a seat bracket.

I am 6'2 and my wife is 5'2 so adjustable seats are what I am going for, both up/down and forward/back

I am going to order the kwikwire 14 circuit from Jeff on Friday, if I end up having an extra circuit, power seats it is!
