Hi all,
I’m a new here, but have used this site for a lot of great info, but cannot currently find the answer to my current conundrum.
Vehicle: 1968 Scout 800, 196 ic, t-19.
Problem: my 800 was sputtering and coughing when the throttle was applied and it was determined that a valve was stuck. I disassembled everything and dropped the head off at the machine shop for a valve job. After purchasing all the new gaskets and putting it all back together I thought I was ready to go. Unfortunately, while I was adding the coolant, I noticed that I had a leak from what appears to be between the head and the block in the front corner beneath the water pipe.
This leak is new and was not preexisting, nor is it coming from the water pipe. I used all new gaskets, torqued the head bolts down in three stages 50%, 75%, and 100% in the correct bolt pattern.
I used the copper spray on the other gaskets, but not on the head gasket as I was using the blue felpro and read in the forums that this gasket is to be used dry. What step did I miss?
Any help, advise or expertise is greatly appreciated as I am not looking forward to yanking the head off my engine on the street in front of my apartment...again.
