Hello,
I am hoping someone out there has had a similar experience to what I am currently dealing with and can give me some insight. I have been searching the threads in both carb and ignition areas for 2 days and can't find a like issue so I figured I would post it up and see what you all think. This my first "question" post. Here is where I stand:
I have a 1968 Scout 800 with a 266 v8, torque flight transmission (not original) and a Dana 20. I have installed a pertronix on the distributor and the carb is a Holley 2300 model 7448 that I installed about 3 years ago. Well the Scout sat for about 4 months and when I went to start the motor it would only start with the help of starter fluid and then only run with the choke fully closed. I checked and the accelerator pump was not pumping (later found out the check valve rod at the nozzles was gummed up and stuck). After looking thru the threads here I decided to rebuild the carb, clean the fuel tanks, change the fuel filters and installed a gas pressure gauge (which showed I had 5 psi at the carb). I put it all back together and my true dilemma started. The Scout will now start, but will not idle and just dies if I talk my foot off the pedal (it dies so fast I can't even check the timing). I did not mess with the any other part of the motor except for the carb. I also hear a weird noise (almost reminds me of a seal call) coming from the carb as the rpm's slow down and the motor dies. Oil pressure is good. All fluids are full. I did check and the accelerator pump is working well (one good thing to come out of this) and the motor is getting plenty of fuel.
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
james
