On the 1975 Scout the drivers door spring that keeps locking knob up failed. Its been referred to as a pig tail type spring. A fine gauge wire single loop with 2 opposing dog legs protruding for anchoring in the locking mechanism and serves as an over center detente for the locking knob. Access to the spring is possible behind door panel.

There's a few threads out there floating around the internet with thoughts on repairs for this. Seems like the cheap and easy fix is to take a safety pin of similar dimensions and modifying it to work. Another diy guy made one out of music wire and fabbed up a little jig with a slightly smaller diameter bolt and had good success. Ebay has some similar springs but they take a while to arrive from turkey. Some of the light line dealers list this item still including Jeff's brother in Lancaster. I'm still deciding what to do. I did some exploratory surgery and recovered the broken spring. I thought the whole door latch assembly could have been removed easily to the bench but soon discovered not so.... The door lock cylinder and window track/window assembly would need to come out first.
Anyway my big question is how is that new spring going to be installed into the latch assembly while still in the door?
Below are reference pics taken at scooter's shop from a drivers door off his beast showing where the spring actually lives in the door latch assembly..
