SBC and SII ideas

So I am running a 350 in my Scout II and will probably be swapping in a healthy 383 stroker within the next year. I was looking through the cooling forum and saw the summit radiator thread by 72scoutii. What I want to know though is what junk yard radiators people have used for their sbc or other applications. I have a pretty small GM radiator that was put in by the po. I have built a fan shroud for it now but the 350 in it now still runs pretty warm in the summer, and I am worried I will have lots of cooling issues with cooling the stroker.

I am just looking for some ideas that have worked for others using junk yard radiators.

I actually ended up going with a 1967 impala radiator. The mounting brackets are nearly the same and it fits will in the factory cut out. The problem with most junk yard radiators that I looked at was that they mount with hangers on the bottom and brackets at the top. As you know the Scout has no provisions for this since they mount on the side

I can send you the name of the guy I got it from, his service was top notch and it was less then 250 shipped

I have a smaller GM radiator in it now that fits the stock housing, however the po cut up the front of the rig to fit it in. I have since kinda cleaned that up and it now has the rubber "(" kind of things that go over the top of the radiator and bolt in to the sheet metal. I can get some pics later of how it works with the hand made fan shroud. The radiator in it looks like it is from a GM v6 motor.

I will start checking for availability of used GM muscle car radiators and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for your help !

With the fan shroud, and it being fairly cool outside, it stays between 190-200, but gets there really quick. I havnt run it in the heat since last year. It is still in the process of being painted (taking my sweet ass time doing it). Last year though, my wifes Dad was using it to haul rafts from boise to riggins and back (between 200-250 miles or so through the mountains) and it overheated and actually shot coolant everywhere. I havnt had any issues since then though... So I am not sure if there was just some junk in the coolant, or if it needed to be flushed. Probably did.

Before I got the fan shroud, if I was sitting at idle, it would run up to 250 just idling in traffic while it was hot outside.

I will report back once I get the thing painted and have driven it around this summer.
