rpt mount

Got my package of goodies yesterday (thanks!), and am going to install the rpt front motor mount on my 71 1210 4x4 this afternoon and was wondering the proper way of lifting the engine up enough to replace the mount. This is the rectangular style, not the dogbone style. Do I just jack from the oil pan? I'm not sure this would be strong enough. I don't have access to a engine hoist either. Any tips would be great. Thanks,

A floor jack under the oil pan will work fine but do put a piece of at least 2"x6" wood between to prevent and tweaking of the pan. Make sure to stay away from the drain plug as well. If nothing else rental yards will rent you an engine hoist for a couple hours for a very reasonable fee.

I use a piece of 2x6 between the oil pan and the saddle on the floor jack and lift up enough to take the load off the mount.

The pan is capable of supporting this weight as long as you have a block between the saddle and the pan.

If you have a functional radiator shroud, be careful that ya don't lift so high the fan contacts the shroud! If in doubt, then remove the shroud retaining bolts and just let it lay back on the fan while raising the engine.

Radiator shrouds for pickall rigs are priceless!

Well I tore into the front mount today and jacking from the oil pan was definitely the way to do it. It was a very simple swap, although I do have one other question for ya. I noticed that the holes that go through the front x-member were quite large and the oem mount had a step in them to keep everything from moving. The rpt one doesn't have this, so I cranked it down and it shouldn't move, but should I be concerned that there is no lip to center the poly bushings? Thanks!
