Hello Jeff et al,
I just purchased an iho reverse shackle kit, which looks great, and after reading through the directions I had a question. The kit that I purchased included the 5" front shackles. I noticed in the directions that Jeff states, generally, that the new anchor point for the rear of the front spring (where the new shackles will go) should be through the center of the frame rail, however, this location can be altered up or down depending upon how much lift you want to add. The question is what is the starting point for the lift? For example, if I install the kit as suggested and drill the new rear anchor point through the center of the frame rail, and use the 5" shackles, will that put me back to the same height as before the kit, or will it add about 1" of lift to the truck (due only to the longer shackle). I guess another way of asking the same question is if I use the 5" shackles for the front, and mount the rear of the front spring in the center of the frame, do I use 5" rear shackles, or something else?
I guess one of the reasons why I am asking the question is the kit only comes with shackles for the front. But if the 5" front shackles require 5" rear shackles so the truck will sit level, do I need to buy 5" shackles for the rear too? Or should I drill the new mounting hole a little higher in the frame to reduce the lift? (I thought when I bought the kit that I had 5" shackles already on the truck, but they are only 4, so I'm not sure if I need to buy new ones or ?).
Thanks for any advice. Jesse b.
