Reverse Shackle Question

Hello Jeff et al,

I just purchased an iho reverse shackle kit, which looks great, and after reading through the directions I had a question. The kit that I purchased included the 5" front shackles. I noticed in the directions that Jeff states, generally, that the new anchor point for the rear of the front spring (where the new shackles will go) should be through the center of the frame rail, however, this location can be altered up or down depending upon how much lift you want to add. The question is what is the starting point for the lift? For example, if I install the kit as suggested and drill the new rear anchor point through the center of the frame rail, and use the 5" shackles, will that put me back to the same height as before the kit, or will it add about 1" of lift to the truck (due only to the longer shackle). I guess another way of asking the same question is if I use the 5" shackles for the front, and mount the rear of the front spring in the center of the frame, do I use 5" rear shackles, or something else?

I guess one of the reasons why I am asking the question is the kit only comes with shackles for the front. But if the 5" front shackles require 5" rear shackles so the truck will sit level, do I need to buy 5" shackles for the rear too? Or should I drill the new mounting hole a little higher in the frame to reduce the lift? (I thought when I bought the kit that I had 5" shackles already on the truck, but they are only 4, so I'm not sure if I need to buy new ones or ?).

Thanks for any advice. Jesse b.

Jesse,

before starting the reverse shackle conversion measure from the bottom of the frame to the bolts going thru the leaf spring and note the measurements. Then when setting up the reverse shackle you can remeasure before drilling the hole thru the frame so you know what you had and where you'll be when done. If that doesn't make sense feel free to call me. As for the rear shackles wait and see where your vehicle ride height ends up and level the Scout from there by swapping shackles if needed. The kit doesn't have to have 5" shackles in the rear in order to be level. With all the differences in leaf springs out there you really won't know if the vehicle is going to sit perfectly level until your're done installing the kit.
