Reverse Shackle Instructions

Hey all,
was reading the below thread and there was talk about where to weld in the front fangs as far as how wide.

using IH Parts America reverse shackle kit question

People where talking about 1/4" to 1/2" off the side of the frame. The kit keeps the stock width of the leaf springs correct?
Also, someone had mentioned the length of the rear shackles in the reverse shackle kit and that they had clearance issues with the spacer hitting the frame. He needed a 6" shackle instead of the 5" shackle. Why do some need the 5 and some need the 6?
How do you know ahead of time when ordering the kit?

Finally, I'd like to install one but my budget won't allow me to do it as well as new springs. Can I install the reverse shackle kit w/my old springs then replace them when I have the dough? Will the final result be just as good?

You can use your old springs with the reversal kit. I have installed a few of these kits, not just on my own rigs, but for a couple friends too. That being said, I haven't modified the install from what the instructions state. It's well laid out and thought through. IHPA has at least one build thread showing off the kit being installed. I my build thread of my 73 beast, I posted up some photos of the reversal kit install.

so the rear shackles will be in the same place if I use the existing springs or a new 2.5" lifting spring?
What about the length of the rear shackles (5 or 6")?
 
Wow. I'm a bone head. I totally over looked and missed your question. Sorry. I just went and measured the two kits I have currently installed on my own scouts, and they both are 6". I currently don't recall if the other kits that I have installed on friends rigs where 5" or 6"

the instructions in the reversal kit are pretty detailed and thorough. But, depending on who makes the new springs and/or how they are arched, I think minimal change between old oem springs compared to the new springs. Unless you specify longer or shorter springs compared to your old springs
