Repair Shop needed near Mtn View

So......I bought my wife a 72' Scout II last year but I just don't have the time to work on it. Her birthday is later this month and I'd like to have it ready or at least in a shop by then.

Anyone know of a good shop near mountain view? Anywhere south bay or peninsula would probably be ok.

Immediate needs:
brakes - I replaced front but I'm thinking it needs a thorough flush.
Clutch - either adjustment or new plate, not sure.

The engine runs fine, I rebuilt the carb and it starts up and idles fine but it's burning oil as the exhaust is slightly blue and smells. This is longer term repair I think depending on the issue and cost of course.

Also, pretty standard rust on pillar and body mount on front drivers side so I'll need a body shop at some point as well.

Thanks in advance!!

IH Parts America, who runs this particular forum has their shop up in Grass Valley. They do great work. Bit of a haul for you for what you're description for what needs to be done. Going to be hard pressed to refer some one due to competing with the ones who run this forum, and do so much for the IH community.

I get that but they're 3 hours away, a long term plan for restoration and definitely a source for parts but it's not feasible for what I need right now.

Long time IH extraordinaire ed long is just about done with opening up his new shop for general automotive repair. Being an IH guy he should be able to handle your needs. Here is the contact info I got from ed over the weekend. Although not mountain view fairfield is much closer to you.

We have an informal club in the bay area: babs.

Sign in on our forum and you might find someone to do the work or help you.

doc,

what forum? Is there a link?

On this forum. This thread is actually in the babs sub-section of the forum. Babs = bay area binders society. Good group of people located through out the bay, from fremont up to petaluma and fairfield. One or two in santa cruz.

There's is an offroad trip coming up in a couple weeks down in hollister. Show up if you can.

Ok, I was hoping I was in the right place!

Can't make it next weekend and the Scout's a non-op right now. Thanks for the invite though, I haven't been to hollister for about 9 years but we love it!

I'm in san jose and maybe I can help you with what you need. I have a 75 Scout II. I have done a lot of my own work and my son is a great mechanic.

We don't have a shop but we have done a complete restoration on a 1989 Ford f-150. I have done transmission swaps and motor changes on my scouts. I have done a complete rewire my 1975 Scout II and a 1965 Scout 800 which I have sold. If we need to fab anything my son bagged a 1964 lincoln and he built the rear from scratch. I am on the san jose - milpitas boarder. If you are not in a hurry we could set something up for after the first of the year. If we can get something set up I would post up that we are working your truck and let the guys know. We could have some members help out and you could meet some of them.

Jeff/IH part america does great work.

If you can't make up there, my friend cliff has shop in walnut creek
he hosted a work day for the bay area guys a few years ago.

Pm me & I will give you his contact info & number.

Thanks, I'll check them out! The Scout had to take a back burner for awhile but I'm about ready to get rolling so it can be driven again at least.

Hi BABS-ers,

I'm in the same position. I've a stock '72 SII, and am having problems starting. Every time I turn the key, it starts strong, then unless I keep the gas 1/4 or 1/2 way down, it dies just as suddenly. Even if it keeps running, as soon as I let go of the gas pedal, it dies. Basically it only runs at a high RPM.
I should add that I drive this seldomly, and this symptom appeared after it sat undriven for >6 months. I've gotten some tips from a Scout group on Facebook (is that bad?), with suggestions on what to do, but honestly, I'm too much of a newbie to tackle them without personal guidance. So wondering if there's anyone in the San Francisco area that would be willing to give a hand (preferred, so I can learn), or recommend a shop I can take this to.

Symptom indicates a large vacuum leak.I would look for a broken or open vacuum line/hose/plug. You are looking at hoses other than gas or water that come off the base of the carburetor, EGR valve, or vacuum tee at rear of intake manifold.
