I'm rebuilding an 1971 800B snowstar, and while the body has the usual rust..the inner panels are the worst. How do you remove the outer panels? Ie rear caps . I'm thinking spot welds but I can't really see where to start...thanks!!
Take some coarse sandpaper and lightly sand where the spotwelds are or should be and you will see them no problem. Get yourself a spotweld drill bit (buy a decent one) and start drilling. You can remove the end caps with the box sides, makes it a little easier and less work. Where the tailgate closes, there are spotwelds in there, (under the tailgate when closed on each side). Top of the box sides and along the bottom. Inside the doors, those are fairly obvious. Make sure you tack some support bars across the tailgate and doors when removing all the panels. I think I had all the outer sheet metal removed in a couple days worth of work.
Thank you for the quick response, I have the roof, hood, doors, front fenders and nose off. I was going to lift the whole body off first but it is so bad underneath. This way is easier, and I can do it the right way.
