Remote Oil Filter

Ok I am a cheap cheap dude who hates seeing stuff sitting around not getting used. I have an aftermarket remote oil filter kit from a karmen ghia that is not currently running nor is it going to be running in the next couple of years. It has a remote oil filter kit, I was thinking about using this filter kit as a remote transmission filter. Obviously I would have to put on a new filter but is there any reason I could not use an oil filter as a transmission filter? I have some gunk clogging up my valve body in my torqueflite and thought this my help. I have changed the fluids and filters in the transmission but thought why not see if I can add a filter.

I would hesitate only based on the potential pressure in the control circuit of a trans. The cooler lines where you would put the filter are usualy at a lower pressure, I don't know if all spin-on engine filters are rated for a high enough operating pressure. The remote adapter probably uses a ph8a format filter and a true spin-on type hydraulic rated filter should be availible in the correct format.

I've moved this thread to a more appropriate sub-forum.

I've got no use for a secondary filter on any tf 727, the oem filter system serves the purpose in an excellent manner.

An auto trans does not "sludge" like an engine. And varnish deposits don't form unless the trans is repeatedly overheated without servicing the unit and exchanging the working fluid. In that case, it's toast...and not because of deposits, but because the friction materials took a hike, a servo is "leaking", or a band physically broke.

If "gunk" is clogging the valve body, a secondary filter will do nothing. It already has a filter! Do something to not have gunk in the valve body...that is called a bench overhaul! If you physically disassembled the valve body and studied it's functionality, you would understand this. And valve body disassembly is the only way to "clean" it.
