I have a 76 Scout with a 196 and, I wondering about the reground cams. I wanted to know what they are reground to or, if they could be custom done. It would be nice to get a little more low and mid range power.

We can supply an I-4 cam ground to virtually any spec you desire. Oem replacement grind cams are on the shelf now.

If the grind you'd like requires some weld-up before the grind, there is an upcharge from our cam supplier for each lobe that requires weld-up...iirc, that upcharge is $7.50 per lobe additional.

So you are not surprised, there is a "core charge" for the replacement camshaft. And we can have your camshaft core processed, or we can use one of our cores that will be carefully inspected by the grinder before processing. Our camshaft grinder keeps one I-4 cam core in stock in the "ihon core bank" that belongs to us and waits for proper instructions!

Jeff will have to price this out for you, so call him and discuss your particular engine build plans and he can help you select a grind.

I can price it out but I was hoping you or rk could help with the cam profile.

Where's Robert?? We need him to do the math!

I believe he's already worked this out in regards to our other projects. But esac will need to furnish some details about his planned engine build such as carburetion and ignition, head work, machine plans, etc. So Robert will know the gig picture.

We need a lot more info. Trans / rear gears, crusing rpm @ 60-65, tc stall speed as it is now, other engine mod plans, compression ratio after build intended carburetor, altitude of your home base etc etc. No way anybody can make a cam suggestion with out these.

A heavy Scout II with a 4 popper can't be cammed up like a v8 can.

I have a t19 wide ratio trans, and 4.10 gears in the axels. I have not had it on the road since I bought it so I don't know the rpm at 60-65. Right now the frame is ready to snap in half behind the driver and passenger seats, so its going to be a little while longer till I can find that out. I am not sure of the compression ratio but the enginge is still stock and, I have no plans of bumping it up any time soon. I plan on buying a an afi TBI kit and a header. I live at aprox 2000 feet above sea level. If I feel up to it I want to do a very simple and basic diy port job. It will run 33 10.50 tires and with a 4 inch sus lift. One day I plan to have a power lok in the rear and a locker in the front or vise versa.
Thank you.

Good info, just what I needed. Good freeway rpm so your 196 will be in the sweet spot. The wide ratio t19 has the good low first gear for easy starts with the 4 banger

I have a nice warmed over cam profile that is proven for your IH in it's basically stock configuration. It will also work well in a slightly modified 196. So when you are ready for it give Jeff a call and we will set you up.
