I have a auto tranny-w/dana20 appox. 1700 mi. On it w/ mild shift kit this was out of 74' Scout 2 professionally built by precision transmission redding CA. The transfer case was gone though, new gaskets , not a leaker! The reason it was taken out : the 345 eng was replaced. W/ GM 383 & early model toyota drive train! It has rebuilt torque converter also. Buy your self this xmas present! I can ck on shipping 4 u! Only $400.00

Was the d_20 twin sticked? Or just a standard oem freshen up?

You p.m.ed once regarding your set-up, but at the time I wasn't exactly ready. I May have a way to pick up. But will be a few weeks before the funds will become available. In the meantime, I'll ponder on this for a bit.

Thanks for the reply. Got your message. Pmed back. I'll try and call this evening after work. I had one other question. Did the trans mate up to an IH v8 motor or the straight six? I ask due to the fact that the bell housing is slightly different between the two motors, and I currently would need one for a v8. Otherwise, I will wait to rebuild my current 727 that I just pulled out and gutted.

I did say the Scout 345 engine was replaced w/ GM stoked 383, this guy is a dentist in redding, he had all the new work done professionally and sent pics, after his project was done, it looks bad!! So ur answer is. Tranny is out of v-8

Oh one strong point I failed to mention. I rode in the Scout before he took engine, tranny out. The 345 was rebuilt appox. 55,000 miles balanced& blueprinted, strong powerful engine, w/ just the normal puff of blue smoke on start up! The Scout did shoot from a start, w/ low mileage, rebuilt quad- 4 barrel , I May be willing 2 part w/ it? I would regasket, & new freeze plugs! If I keep it! Of course fresh paint it!

Thanks for the heads up. Good talking with ya last night. I posted my question before I called. We will keep in touch. I May know someone who might be interested in the 345. If things work out this weekend, you would meet him.

So we have permission 2 meet @ ed long's shop trans european in American canyon. I'll give u directions when u call , he's my I h guru! I'm sure u'll recognize him when u meet this 4 this fri! Onward david

Sold to scooter! He'll be a happy happy camper & the plus is I traded him labor& $ so we. Both came out! Plus I got to see ,meet steve u no him as dusty Scout! Onward

Thanks. Good to meet ya in person. Ole 'rusty Scout' - aka steve was kind enough to help me out with a ride there and back. After we had brunch, and got back to my cave I pulled the pan just out of curiosity. Looked good. Little dust fell through the dip stick tube hole of the trans, along with one or two cork gasket pieces came off into the pan. I will wait un-patiently for the torque converter. Was king hoping I might be able to start stuffing it in ole yeller this weekend. But this wait will give me some time to look into some electrical issues in the mean time. Like getting the head lights to work and finishing up the remote starter relay set-up. I'll post up more on my ole yeller build thread later when I get something done.

I did notice something that aint a big deal for me, since I have a few laying around. Is that one of the pins that holds the transfer case shifter linkage to the front shift rail was missing. The t.c. Was in 4x4 low when I first started going through everything.

When ever you're ready, after turkey day, we will get meet up again and go from there. I have some 11 gauge and 14 gauge sheet metal to choose from, for that rear floor by the tail gate in your t.a.

Just read ur post oops on the dip stick, I took it out , 4 got to cap it. But then I'm old & 4 getful! What's w/ the cork gasket? Was it in pan all the time or fell apart when u disassembled it? I'll look 4 pin, I believe it was in tranny when I pulled it? Onward

The cork pan gasket is prone to getting stiff and brittle, just like my failing old body. The one or two small pieces came off when I took the pan off. I already have a new filter and rubber gasket sitting here on the shelf in my cave. I wasn't too concerned with what I saw. As long as nothing got up into the filter or beyond, which I didn't see other than what was laying on the pan. No cause for alarm.

Well, this seems to be a failed attempt of a quick temp fix for my needs. And I had hoped to not post here. After many attempts, since my last post in this thread, to get the torque converter for this transmission, it looks like I will need to go out and purchase one just to be able to install this 727. Otherwise, I ended up getting myself a big ole paper weight of a boat anchor. Needless to say, I'm not exactly happy for the delayed response op in emails, text message and a phone call.

Scooter,

I've got a 727 torque converter that was recently pulled with a good running transmission that I'll sell for a good price. Pretty sure it's a stock 800 rpm stall with 11" mounting ear spacing.

Thanks for the offer. I'll keep it on the back burner for the moment. I was hoping that something would have worked out by now. Guess I'm getting a bit impatient since I could have had this transmission installed last weekend if I had the t.c. If nothing pans out by this coming weekend, I will deal with it.

It's a temp solution anyways, while I gradually shop for parts for a rebuild on the original trans that I pulled out of my 72.
