rear pinon angle

Does anyone know what the ideal rear pinon angle is on a 65 Scout 80 Dana 44? I'm swapping from Dana 27 to Dana 44.

Same angle as the transmission or just slightly nose down. That's assuming you're running the standard drive shaft.

What do you consider the "nose"? The pinion or the diff cover?

Imo, the pinion should be slightly raised. Of course, it all depends on the amount of lift.

The nose is just like the one on your face :icon_razz: it sticks out the front. The reason to angle the pinion slightly down is that when under load torque tends to wrap the springs a bit and lift the pinion.

If you are lifted and want to run a double cardon joint on the transmission, point the pinion just below the tail shaft.
