Rear Main Seal

I have a new gasket/seal kit, for my 1973 1110 Travelall 4x4. I used some gaskets from the kit, I going to replace my rear main seal this weekend. It doesn't have a installation tool or plastic sleeve to keep the seal from rolling. Do these seals usually come with a tool, or no? The engine is a 392 ic, for barrel. Thanks for the help.

If the seal is a component of a gasket set, then no, an installation aid is not provided since that kit is intended to be used in re-assembly of an engine that is undergoing an overhaul process.

And over the years, the "seal only" set from fel-pro has included an assembly aid, sometimes not.

Personally I don't use any assembly aid for seal installs. If ya think you need one, make it out of a strip of plastic milk jug.

A "composite lip" seal goes in dry per the instructions.

A plain silicone seal (no composite lip) I install with a thin film of transemble or clear silicone grease (such as sparkplug boot grease).

Thank you michael for your input on this. I'm used to seeing the installer on the seals I install on cat engines. I just want to make sure, the truck is my daily driver. Thanks again.
