Rear main Seal question:

Richard

Member
Since I have some time now, I plan on replacing the rear main seal of my 345 (79 Traveler). I was up at the IHSFR and spoke with Darren (I believe) re: the same subject. The one question I did not ask was this: If/when I remove the rear main cap for the swap, does this in any way affect the "crush" of the existing bearing? I am being told that it will and possibly mess up the oil pressure, or ruin the surface of the bearing. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the input,

Richard

No, and if you're really concerned put some assembly lube or heavy oil on the bearing/ journal before you put it back together.

But to be honest you have no reason to remove the bearing cap to change the rear main on an SV8.
