rear inner seal!

I have a 79 Traveler, D44 front and rear, 3.54 gears. Question:
I know that the inner rear axle seal did not come on the 79 axles as they were on previous years. I am not familiar with this inner seal and am wondering if they are worth the effort to put them in. Also, when installed, other than packing the axle bearing with good grease, how does it stay lubricated during use?
I know that without the inner seals, the bearing gets "wet" due to the gear oil in the differential. Does anyone have similar thoughts about this?

Thanks all,
Richard

What are you trying to accomplish? If the axle tube is bent (which I guarantee it is) it will leak no matter what. There is no need for the seal.

i had a friend that put the inner seals in and in a few years his rear bearings burned up. that was back in high school and we didnt know any better. the rear dana 44 lubes its bearings by the gear oil like you mentioned. even though the axel is machined for the inner seal dont put it in.
