In the back. I notched out the area behind between bumper and gas tank. Also notched out area inside frame rails so I can run 3/8x4" plate 18" deep inside frame to bolt through frame. 2 bolts in front of leaf spring mount and 2 behind. Make sense? I'll get more pics when done.

I mean inside the frame fails. Not running plate inside the frame itself. There is thin metal welded on the rear caps of the frame rails that stock bumper is bolt through. Cut it out between frame rails. Used existing hole and metal outside frame rails to bolt to on top of the plate I am running 18" deep inside frame rails. Again pic to come soon and it'll make sense. But there is plenty of room behind the bumper for pin. Triple checked that and tailgate clearence.

Looks good, post pic of the mounting..

Hard to see but read what you posted about the 3/8 x 4 plate

I know when I did mine out of 2x5 I made some extensions that bolted to the cross member to get the bumper to stick out past the tail gate. Since I have a 2" body lift, I just ran some 2" stock over the frame and bolted. I did sleeve the frame with some 1/2: pipe so it would not crush.
Fwiw the quarter panel is what normally gets whacked.
