Some of you May have seen my (our) last project, built with my daughter and help from dan hayes

Well, it's pretty much done and boredom is begining to set in.
So, I looked around the shop and found one of these:

And one of these:

And dan dropped off these:
1 ton IH with 6.13 gears

So, I thought "this could be fun"!

Here I (we) go again...

Subscribed as well! Cant wait to see how this turns out. But, I have heard questionable things about that 'dan hayes' guy.:nono:

There's gonna be two cummins upgrades goin' on simultaneously!

Tha dude what's snakin' the phelpsette from the roth compound has been lookin' for the right rig for hiz cummins for awhile. Now he's found it.

It'll be comin' down to my place next week to prep for it's journey out to louisville, ky...either with the 392/tranny in it or without! Won't know the big picsure (or transport arrangements) for awhile.

So's charlieinlouisville has been informed of yore deal, he May have sum questions for ya afore he gits started. He totaled a new duramax last week, but sez there is no way the isuzu insurance buyback is goin' inna IH rig, it's only gonna git the cummins transplant. That isuzu wuz a dam nice motor until GM/chevrolet got aholt of it!

Rumor izz...sumbody named roth May be in line for the duramax????

Ok, we're under way!
Phase one - demolition:

we spent today stipping the the sukka down:
here's what she looked like at 10 am:

Then shortly after lunch:

We cut the bed off about 16" behind the doors, 'cause the plan is to use a "basket" bed instead of the IH rust bucket bed.

Dan is cutting all the brackets, mounts and other attachment points off the frame. Next to go is the spring hangers etc.
The plan is to start with a "clean" frame and make all new spring hangers for chebby springs and custom mounts for the oil burner, as well as anything else that needs to attach to the frame.

We'll be taking some time off now for a few camping/wheeling trips before summer is over.

Stay tuned!

It was a fun and pretty productive day. Demolition is always the best part but the build is the most rewarding. I have a day or two of grinding and cleaning on the frame, then we swing the drive train. Like ms said, we got some trips and camping to do before the temps drop. But don't fret, winter will be busy with build up. Stay tuned!

Got a first hand look at the torkasaurus project yesterday. There doesn't appear to be much left. I can't wait to see what unfolds.

I dusted off this project this weekend. Progress is slow since my chief design engineer/fabricator/consultant/laborer is now a pow
(prisoner of work)
so I did a little grave robbing. Removed the drive train from its resting spot and put on the floor. It had been sitting the half frame of the dodge pickup it used to be.
Maybe in the next couple of weeks I can set it in the "new" frame and start fabbing the mounts.

The harbor frieght hoist was straining under the load:yikes:

200_1212.jpg

Be honest, that hoist has been 'modified' a little:gringrin:

once things settle down a little with the new job, moving, and shutting down the business, I'll be around to help out.

We got back on this project Saturday for a couple of hours.
We set the drive train in position so we could start mockup and fabbing the motor mounts.

We decided on the "mid engine":sosp: approach for better weight distribution:

200_1234.jpg

The set back is pretty serious, thats the front cab mount (it'll be removed later) so most of the existing firewall will be removed/modified and a h-1 type console will take it's place.

200_1238.jpg

Just to help drive home the 'weight distribution' need, since the motor weighs an ass ton, everything is going in the back. Batteries, radiator(maybe), trans and ps coolers, fuel cell, small tool boxes, rear winch will be at the very back. I'm thinking of using the dead space in front of the motor to put the winch, a la, Scout 80 style. That way we can have as good as approach angle as possible and still run leaves.

200_1234.jpg

what kind of leaves are you going to run to support that much weight?

Ummm, prolly chevies. Since they are 2.5" just like the ones that were on the stock dodge:icon_eh: also, since its gonna be 5" behind The front axle, instead of directly above like the dodge was, the weight on the front springs should be considerably less.

With all the interesting weather we've had latley, I've found some time to get back at this.
The frame has been plated for strenght and the motor/trans mounts have been fabbed up.

Wtf is that disaster going on near the trans/t-case adapter? Are you gonna have to remove the body to do any trans work?

Look what just crawled out of the wood work! Where you been latley?

Glad to see you approve! That's a highly engineered piece. And it is removable, without a bunch of bs.
