Hey guys-
power steering box from 79 s2. 345 automatic:

pulled the steering box to put in borgeson joint. (rag joint was totally shot)

as I pulled it I know I had a little leak because there was a mess on the spring and frame below it. Thought I would also change out the high pressure hose and low pressure hose as well.

I have the IHOnly rebuild kit for the seals on the output shaft side.

Jeff at IH said not to take out he collar with the spanner tools and just to remove the "c" clip and change the two gaskets.

Well-
dust gasket came out fine, the oil gasket behind it was fused to the collar. I had to chip it off the inner collar wall and pick at it for 30 minutes to get all the little pieces out. Totall pain int he a%%! Couldnt get the gasket out with out pulling the collar. Anyone see this happen before?

Next-

trying to clean up the thread on the output shaft with a "v" file so the bogeson fits (per jeffs instructions) it worked a little. Not great. As I test fit the borgeson it stuck on a little and pulling back I removed the whole output shaft and the guts attached to it! Ha.... What now.

Im over my head. I have the Scout manual but its not easy for me to figure out. Any of you guys take one of these apart? I searched bp but I didnt get much on it.

Happy thanksgiving-

Yeah, I've been into mine a couple of times now, once to replace the output seal, and once to drill and tap it for hydro-assist. Here is a thread I found very useful.

Starting on post 243.
Hope it helps.
