PowerLok Questions

Does the powerlok replace the carrier? I had an axle cut and turned and while they had it. I had them look at the gears to make sure the condition was good. They said the gears look fine but the carrier is rusty and I might want to replace it on account of something coming up and chipping the gears if it got stuck in between them. Now I haven't had time to look at it and I'll do that first before ordering anything. I'm figuring though if I have to replace the carrier I might as well install some sort of locker or posi. So can I kill two birds with one powerlok? Ie traction and carrier in one? Or do I have to kick it up to something else.

The only other thing I have to figure out is if I want to just try to clean it up really good and run it that way until I am ready for bigger tires (31's now 3.07 and the gearing will be 3.54 shortly when I swap the axles around) then just drop in lower gears and a posi or locker when I go to possibly 33's I doubt I will go to 35's and I'll be doing probably 75% highway for now with some towing up to 5000lbs and some mountain roads. Or do the posi now and keep the 3.54s even if I do go to 33's

well time to get to bed this late watches kill ya.

The powrlok does replace the open carrier that you currently have. So does the detrior locker, ARB, and Auburn limitslip that we also sell. Powrloks and Auburn gears can be found on the online store.

Thanks Jeff,

I had typed up a reply but I don't know what I did with it. (note: I just tried to post this and it went back the forum home weird 3rd times the charm though). I will just have to see how bad this carrier really is. I'm probably going to bolt the axle in place and run it as is in 2 wheel drive at least up to maine. That way I don't have to haul the whole axle assembly up pull the old one and have it sitting around for no reason. At least this way I can leave it with the other 13 some trucks and excessive parts laying around so it won't get lonely in pa.

I'm planning on just swapping the rear gears and pinion over using fresh bearings and shims. Since the outer axle shafts bearings are new with your rpt plates on why do that over again on another axle lol.

The question in the end is if I'm planning on not going bigger then 33's anytime soon. Maybe 35's in the future, with towing no more then 5000 lbs, mild off-roading maybe medium, snow plowing privately not commercially, snow belt driving, and just all in all daily driving for now. What lockers/limited slips should I go with? I wanted to put them in both ends and run either manual hubs or the automatics I've seen with a free wheel postion in them too. I want my wife to be able to handle the truck too without getting surprised too much.

A quote or a statement of what locker/limited slip to go with and everything I need to install one with 3.54's gears (I have the gears themselves). (oh and I'm currently running 31's if I should jump a gear size for 33's let me know. I might have some 3.73 lying around though) but I'm definetly running the 31's until they wear out or get too old.
Thanks again
