I've had a "slow" charge problem in the goat since we got it. So this last weekend I decided to figure the problem out. Got the IH manual out and went through the test sequence and determined that te issue resides in the regulator. Took the unit out to bench set it and when I opened it up a few contacts fell out, that had been burned off. So I went to my local parts store and picked up a new standard brand vr, installed it and bingo the gen light goes out and I'm charging (at 15.78 volts) 
have you ever tried to adjust the new regulators???? 
no adjustment screw, just a spring with a tab that you have to bend in little tiny steps to get the voltage to a decent level.......13.8 now.
