How can you get the grommet out of the valley pan without braking it and getting parts of dried rubber in the engine

There is no way I could have gotten mine out without it breaking. It was hard as a rock. Fortunately for me the valley pan was out when I removed it. I had to punch a large chunk of it through the other side as it refused to come out via the top. Not sure what you should do especially if the valley pan is on and will stay on.

I just did one. I used a shop vac during removal of the old grommet. I also vacuumed out the hole really good before installing the new one. I looked with a flashlight and I didn't see anything inside the engine.
