Open holes on sides of transmission?

This May be a real dumb question, but I am going to ask anyway. There is a threaded hole on each side of the transmission that I thought should have something screwed into. The passenger side hole is in the transmission just behind the starter.

Are these supposed to be plugged? I looked at my other Scout and it has the open holes to.

I attached a picture of the holes.

Those are "intermediate mount" positions for the tf 727 slushbox and engine combo depending upon which IH platform (or dodge/chrysler/plymouth/amc) for the install.

Those mount points are not used in Scout II apps, but are used in pickall apps. So you are not missing anything...they never were there in the first place!

And sii rigs mount the the engine/tranny/transfer case to the front portion of the frame rails using side mounts that are also anchored to the front of the engine block casting, then there is a "rear" mount beneath the transfer case adapter which rests on the intermediate cross member with an insulator.
