NV4500 for my 72' Pickup

I am looking in the near future in converting my '72 1210 4x4, 5 speed direct, 392, to a nv4500. I am wanting overdrive in my truck, since I do alot of highway driving to work. I found a nv4500, in a 2wd Chevy dually, which I want a 2wd tranny since mine is divorced. But the truck is a 93'. I know IHOnly has the adapter and input shaft for these trannys, and the ad says I can use a dodge diesel or gas 4500, or '95 and later Chevy nv4500's. What is the difference between the '93 Chevy nv4500 and 95' and later Chevy nv4500's?

Jeff will have to address this question steve, I don't deal with those "modern" gearmixers!

The difference between the two is the gearing. The pre-95' GM models had a lower first gear of 6.34 versus 95' and later GM and dodge units that had a 5.61. The input shafts that we have made or for the later units. On top of that those earlier GM units used a different bell housing mounting pattern. The later GM and dodge units shared the same one. The adapter plate me make is for the later units.

If you can try to find a 2wd dodge diesel(or gas is ok) nv4500 as they also have a synchronized reverse gear something that the GM transmissions did not have(that I have seen or know of).

Thank you for your help on this, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the later style, I'm wanting to convert my truck soon, overdrive would be a pleasure to have. Somebody down the street from me has one in a Scout terra, I'm going to have to ask how he likes driving with this tranny.
